Hi everyone,
I need someone's advise regarding hardness testing.
I am finalizing the requirements for an enquiry, and I was stuck by the requirement of the licensor.
The licensor is UOP, and the requirement states that;
"When PWHT is required, one Brinell hardness reading shall be taken on the inside (except in lined portion of the vessel) and on the outside of each shell section, head, and nozzle, and each longitudinal, girth and nozzle weld."

My question is, how the hardness testing can be performed. Will it be done on the vessel wall, for example in case of shell section. What is the engineering practice in this regard?

Thank you for your help.

There is no short reply, so ask your friendly NDT inspector. It's relatively easy to do those tests.

The requirement for hardness testing being supplied by UOP should have an internal specification or internal procedure to ensure hardness test results are obtained correctly. Go back and clarify with UOP.
