Materials of Construction for a exchanger (shell side) is 1.25Cr-0.5Mo + clad 321/347 Stainless Steel (3mm), which is served in H2S and H2 condition.

Normally, we need PWHT for the base materials (1.25Cr-0.5Mo). However, PWHT is usually not required for Stainless Steel. How can the manufacturer do to satify the PWHT requirement? Can we do PWHT for the whole exchanger?

Or can we use 1.25Cr-0.5Mo + 321/347 Stainless Steel overlay and PWHT?

The PWHT should be applied to the cladded plate as per the base metal requirements, which implies the PWHT of the whole shell side if feasible. For details, refer to ASME II SA 264.

engineermat,
You PWHT the entire cladded shell. Nothing wrong with that. Its done all the time. But if you have to ask this question, then I say you don't the experience to do this job by yourself. You need the supervision of an experienced material and vessel engineer. It gets more complicated if you have w.o. instead of clad.
