Good Morning All,
Code: B31.8
Am welding 1.500" wt piping. Per code and welding procedures, PWHT is required and is being performed. However, our project engineer is challenging the practice of PWHT 1500# "o-let" connections.
My stand, we are making our tap connections by cutting with oxycetele torch (burning), which does in fact subject the entire base metal to heat. The proper fit of the WOL to the pipe constitutes a full penetration weld (root bead). The weld metal it self, measures 1.225".
Am I proceeding correctly, or am I wasting time and money? Thoughts or code references would be greatly appreciated.
