Hello,

I try to design a filter with a granular media consisting of a mixture of pyrolusite and quartz (Q = 40 mc/h)
I found in the technical sheet of the pyrolusite that the backwash speed is 25 gmp/ft2 (~62 mc/mp*h). But, I found in the data sheets from various equipment manufacturers that this backwash speed is 25 mc/mp*h.
Which is the good value, because the difference is very high between the two values (192.01 mc/h vs. 78.54 mc/h).

Thanks in advance

Can pyrolusite come in different sizes? I assume yes, different densities? hmm.
In which case the backwash speed is set to lift the media but not carry it over,
so depending upon the size and density will determine the backwash speed which is true for all medias.

Use the backwash rate from the technical data sheet supplied by the pyrolusite media supplier. The equipment manufacturers should be using the same backwash rate for the same media size.
