I am considering buying a workstation with two quad core processors. I would like to have your feedback on the quad core processors. Will it be equivalent to having 8 single processors. Looking forward to your comments.

Thanks,

Gurmeet

gurmeet2003,

I am currently using a dual quad core system and for some models I notice a pretty big difference in the run times while on others...not so much. I don't recall having any models run 8X faster if I use all of the available processors but there have been times when there is a very noticable improvement.

My gut feel is that it has something to do with whether the model is using user defined subroutines, or how much ram is required. There is a pretty good write up in the MySupport section of Simulia's website that details it some more.

So I guess my feel would a very useful "it depends";)
