Hi

I'm working in NX 5.0.4.1 and I am finding that the display quality of the curves in the 2D drafting is pretty poor, with the circles all jagged.

Any way to improve this?

Also, is there any significance of the background colour of the sheet - seems to vary randomly between light grey or white.

Any advice appreciated.

Your display tolerance in either the customer defaults or an environment variable will address the jaggedness. This may cost you a bit on the performance side, however. It all depends on the tolerance you use.

This is common in CAD and when zooming in tight, you will notice this more often than usual. Sometimes regenerating or refreshing the display will force a redraw, which will then smooth the display out. If you're not experiencing the jagged edges at "normal" zoom levels and only when zooming in very close, then I wouldn't mess with it because you'll have longer redraw times when zoomed further out and that isn't really necessary in most cases.

It is necessary to eliminate things one at a time starting with the most likely which is indeed probably as Tim suggested. Also make sure that you don't have the base view set to "Faceted representation", or only reps loaded in your assemblies.

Thanks for your responses, turns out that the following option sorted out the problem:

Preferences>Visualisation preferences>line tab> curve tolerance.

Set Line font display to 'software'

Then modified tolerance from 0.005 down to 0.0001. Job done. No loss of speed or display issues at thet value. Nice smooth curves now.

Changes only seem to apply on a single drawing. Is it possible to make the changes so that every subsequent new drawing is set? I know that NX5 preference settings are a pain to get set up right.

Rob,

The Curve Tolerance will be in either the Customer Defaults or ugii_env.dat. I'm thinking it's Customer Defaults.
