For simulating a quenching process (a hot tool is immersed in a vat of cool water), how many conditions do i need to specify? There is the convective boundary condition in the x, y, and z directions, I suppose. Also the initial condition (time = 0).
So 4?

You'll also need to know the initial temperature of both the tool and the quenching water. You should include the volume of the water and the mass (and surface area) of the tool.
