Hi,

I am trying to model a lipped channel section with a rounded corner in Abaqus. I have modeled the rounded corner using the fillet option in the sketch section and assigned a shell element in my section with 1.96 mm thickness. When I am seeing the rendered view, in the rounded corner I am noticing a gap at one side and overlap on the other side. The rendered view is attached herewith in the word document as a ready reference.

Could anyone advise:

1. Is this a modeling error? and the results will be affected?
2. How can I rectify this?

Looking forward !

I wouldn’t worry about that. If you check the documentation chapter "Abaqus/CAE —> modeling techniques —> Midsurface modeling —> Creating and editing midsurface models —> Visualizing shell thicknesses", there’s a similar example with explanation that it’s just a display issue.

Great! Many thanks. I will check the relevant chapter.
