Dear Experts,
I have came across a corridor as show in below image (representational image only)
Is smoke detector required at this type of corridor? kindly share your thought on this.

More than likely not.

You do not identify year and building code

Type of occupancy

Plus a little more

Insufficient information is provided to even start an answer. What is the depth of the ceiling & span of the pockets? What is the width and height of the soffits? What is the occupancy? Is this in a country that has no fire or building code but is employing US standards?

Apology for the missing info.
1. Universal building code is applicable. Project is out side the US.
2. Occupancy : Assembly.
3. Ceiling height is : 3.3m
4. Beam depth (here the curved portion bottom to top of ceiling) is about 0.9m
5. Pillar span : 2.9m
6. I am aware bout the arrangement of smoke detector for beam pocket formed by intersecting beams as per NFPA 72.
7. I am concerning about an exterior corridor in which consultant wants to have smoke detectors.

Without considering any code, smoke detectors are mainly a life safety early warning system. Here you are showing an empty non-combustible exterior corridor. What's the meaning of providing an early fire alarm since you are only two, three steps away from safety (to the left)? Further, will the smoke detection work reliably under exterior conditions? To me it seems that if smoke detection is absolutely necessary, a beam type detention system is probably more appropriate. But what is it to burn?

Your concerns are valid. It won't work and the detectors will be destroyed by dust and humidity while at the same time generating numerous nuisance alarms. Such an arrangement is prohibited by NFPA 72.

Thank you for your valuable inputs.
