QUERY SOFT CONTACT ( SEABED AND PIPE)

I have a query about using a soft contact for the interaction betweem the seabed and the pipe.

Does this mean the pipe has a finite degree of penetration into the seabed surface and the stiffness of which increases linearly as the surface penetration increased...
