Section R8.3.3 in ACI 05 talks about how moments in beams and columns should be evaluated separately. Aren't the moments at the top of the columns and beams end the same due to continuity? Why would you need to evaluate them separately? Maybe I'm not understanding what this section is saying.

Assume you have a beam with a 24' spans on either side loaded with 1 klf. The beam will have an end moment, but no moment in the column because of balanced loading. HTH
