At the Green Bay Bridge problem the steel H-pile buckling is said to be 16 feet down. That area probably was filled over a peat marsh. What can you say about Canadian experience with peat and bridge pile foundations and culverts? Do they provide protection against acidic soils in the muskeg and similar situations? I once was investigating a failed subdrainage system in peat soil consisting of galvanized corrugated pipe. All that remained was the galvanizing.
