Hi,

I am having some difficulties in modeling my problem.

I have a big plate (it has a variable cross-section spanwise and chordwise) and is a planar patch. It's easy to construct. I want to cover this plate with some flexible foam, which has an irregular shape spanwise and chordwise. I guess I should use solid elements. I doubt I can build it within Abaqus. So I choose to build it with Catia.

The question is: how can I build this assembly? What are the propper steps to do it?
How should the foam look like if I insert the planar patch plate in the middle?

The whole assy is easy to build in Catia if I consider a non-planar plate (with variable cross-section visible) and then to assign different materials to both models.

I am not interested in interaction between the foam and the plate, rather in stress-displacement of the assy.

I'd appreciate any help,

Thanks

Jm
