Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the above. I am qualifying a MIG fillet weld, and my customer is asking me for a travel speed. I'm having trouble interpreting the standard for what the allowable range is. Can anyone clarify this?

Thank you

Are you talking about Note C on Table 4.5, or item 18 on Table 4.5? Your question is a bit vague. Your allowable range on the WPS will be based on what you recorded during the welding of your qualification test plate. Hopefully you recorded the travel speed for each pass which would give you the greatest flexibility.

Hi there,
I've actually just received clarification from the customer. They were asking for something in a peculiar manner. I used the 25% range allowed for GMAW.
Thanks for your help.

We welded CSA G40.21 50W, 1/2" thick plate. I was under the assumption that travel speed was essential if it was machine welded. I've never specified a travel speed for any of my WPS's without problem. Thanks for the tips.
