I use a lot of self sealing quick disconnects (Hansen brand mostly). One of my coworkers says that there is a preferred direction of flow through these couplings (i.e. female to male flow is better than male to female). I have never heard of this and cant find any guidance to support the claim. Further, the internals of the couplers are identical, so I can't see how it would make a difference what direction the fluid flowed through them. I suppose there could be other reasons, like sealing upon disconnection, but I honestly can't imagine how one flow direction could be different from the other.
Has anyone out there ever heard of a reason to prefer flow through a coupling in a specific direction?
