"HIDE EDGE" in drawing 5

When I select the edge within the drawing and choose "Hide Edge" option from right-click menu, sometimes edge doesn't hide although there now is an option for "Show Edge". Does anybody know how to solve this problem??

Have you refreshed or rebuilt your view yet? If not, your view may not have updated the hidden state of your edge.

Also, sometimes you need to zoom in to make sure your selection is singular instead of plural--often you may hide only a segment of the edge you're hoping to hide and need to zoom in sufficiently to do what you want.

You may also have multiple edges so close to each other that zooming way in is the only way to reliably select the one that is still visible.
Sometimes, I just have to give up.

I tried both 'rebuilt' and 'refresh', but neither of them fixed the problem. And no matter how much I zoom in, there is only a single edge... Maybe I have to give up??

Something that might help, I'm not sure.
Highlight the view, select View, Hide all types. this will get rid of any sketch lines showing that might be there.
also, highlight the view and select View, Display, Tangent edges removed.
I've had trouble hiding lines the same as you in the past. These tips don't always work for me either.

(Is your view a "broken view"?
if so, sometimes you have to ubreak the view, then hide the line, then re-break the view)

If you and edge over another edge. EX: a square - There are two edges when looking striaght down on it the top edge and the bottom edge. If you RMB the top edge and click hide it hides it but you still see and edge. That edge is the bottom edge and if you RMB again you get Show edge. That's because SW is looking at it as a 2D image and not a 3D when you hide edges. So I bet your problem is this. The only thing I can think of getting around it is to tilt the model and make the drawing update. Then hide the edges and tilt it back to it's original position.

I have run into this problem many times, especially when drafting cast parts with the fillets shown. A non-shaded view (HLR) has the option of either being shown with tangent edges, tangent edges removed, or shown with font. Often the drawing looks terrible in any of these display options. This is a big weakness IMO because I often have to go around hiding or showing edges depending on the display mode to get the look I want for the drawing. Often this is very time consuming for detailed and intricate castings, especially when issues like the one you are describing pop-up. Sometimes I give up and just elect to show the view in its shaded mode. I actually submitted an enhancement request to have a hide/show edges tool (similar to the current hide/show annotations tool) because it would save the time of having to right click and select "Hide Edge" for each edge you want to hide. I have found what works when an edge isn't hiding correctly is to make the view a wireframe, and then select the edge you want to hide, and then hide it. Then switch back to HLR and the line edge should then be hidden correctly. I spoke to my reseller about a year ago concerning this apparent bug and it was submitted, but I haven't heard anything yet. My reseller confirmed they saw the same thing when I sent my drawings and models to them. Hope this method works for you. I wish SolidWorks would focus on the drafting environment more in the next few releases. I view the drafting environment as having some weaknesses that if improved upon would sit very well with the SolidWorks community. There are still an awful lot of us out here that would never consider going without drawings for at least the forseaable future. They are a way of documenting design intent (tolerances, finishes, notes, etc...) that can't really be captured in a solid model that gets sent to a cam package, inspection package, or whatever automated solid-dependent system.

1) You can make them, or download the models (if you can find them).
2) Then open up a new part in SW.
3) Click on Toolbox in the pulldowns.
4) Then click on "Add my parts wizard".

Simply follow the wizard from there.
