"nsf" extension

There is a text file in "nsf" extension.

The point is that we can not read the content of this file. Is it possible to read this file in other extensions like "word"?

First, are you sure it's a text file rather than a Lotus Notes file? You can get a guide to a lot of file extensions from:

As they say, not all file extensions are covered, as anyone can design their own filetype at any time. If it isn't Lotus Notes, then try opening it with a 'full-text' editor like TextPad. You can download it from:

did not reveal the ".nsf" file format so it may be a custom format made for an application.
Here are 2 posibilities
1- It may be a formatted text so unless you contact the software maker you need time and presistance to solve it. a known file content will help because you know this should result in that....

2- Some programmers use a standered format and re-name the file to a different extension so normal user can not deal with it. to find that you open this file in hex viewer, see the first few bytes, it tells you what file type is it.


easy way, You may download Total Commander a small file with lots of power

then browse for your file,highlight it, press F3 (View) you can also change from options menu in viewer the format you like to display your file.

Compair those first bytes with compressed files like .Zip etc..
Most likely as it is a text file then it is saved in a compressed format and the extension is changed from .zip of .rar or .arj or else to .nsf

Lotus Notes does use the .nsf extension.

When I am not sure I always try to open it with wordpad or notepad. You would be surprised what these programs will open. They might not make any sense but more often than not you get readable text if there is any text in there at all.

is another handy source to find out file extensions. It confirms that NSF format is used by Lotus Notes.
