I am looking for anyone who has used the kepware opc software to select or program patterns in a UP750 controller?? I am thinking it will only allow me to select from preprogrammed patterns which would be fine. Any help would be great!! Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum!!

Interesting question.

Does the UP750 talk Modbus RTU?
Over serial or ethernet?

I've used Kepware's OPC server on Modbus/TCP devices, but I haven't used it with Modbus RTU device over a serial interface, like RS-485.

I suspect that the UP750 (is that a setpoint programmer?) uses a serial interface, but maybe it has an ethernet port (but having an ethernet port doesn't guarantee that the Modbus data is available on the port, either).

I'm trying to recall how Kepware EX addresses the device and whether it is done strictly by IP address, but can't recall.

Kepware's been doing OPC servers for a long time now, so I suspect that they have some means of accomplishing this.

Their EX server software runs in demo mode for 2 hours at a stretch, and can be restarted after the 2 hours expires, so it is an excellent tool for experimenting to see if it works.

Just remember that an OPC server exists solely to talk to an OPC client (a different software function). The OPC client is the software part that does the data collection or has the GUI that interacts with the field device. The OPC server is there to interface (exchange data) with the field device.

So Kepware's EX OPC server will not provide an HMI interface to interact with the UP750.

It is serial comms and, I did get it talking and it looks to me I will be able to select the pattern by writing to the buffer location. The Kepware works really well, auto tags and all. I do realize i will need to build a GUI. Currently they are using another data Aq package that will talk to the Kepware so that will at least get them getting good process data. The "control" part of SCADA will have to come at a later date for this customer because they are really not looking to spen money on a front end right now.

thanks,joe
