Can anyone please help me locate any information on the design of the quench reactor used in methanol synthesis and which organisation in particular is using the reactor.

Quench reactor design was used by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) since the 60s.
The "cold shot" between the adiabatic beds is obtained through proprietary gas distributors called "lozanges".

For more information about this kind of reactor try KVAERNER. I think they are the actual licensor of the ICI methanol process.

Alternatively, try ABB Ltd, in the UK, many of the engineers in their services part, used to work in ICI engineering and so can probably help you!
I have used them before, try enquiries@gb.abb.com
