Developing weld procedure for GMAW-STT Root, & Hot pass, with FCAW Fill, & Cap. QW-403.10 states if test coupon is less than 0.5" Then table QW-451.1 (2T) does not apply base metal thickness range is only test coupon thickness + 10%. My question is as there are two welding process GMAW-STT & FCAW & GMAW-STT is only 0.125" actual deposit is there any other paragraphs that allow (2T) as-per table QW-451.1.

File: Question: Does QW-403.10 limit the base metal thickness qualified to 1.1T for a combination
GMAW-S/SMAW PQR test coupon thickness ‘T‘ less than 1/2 in. when used to support a combination
GMAW-S/SMAW WPS?
Reply: Yes.

This type of WPS can lead to trouble in some instances as well. Suppose you did the STT Root (.125" dep. weld metal) on a 5/8" coupon, with the remainder filled with FCAW (.500").

This would give a qualified weld metal of .1375" (1.1x.125")for STT, and 1" (2x.500")for FCAW (.1375" + 1" = 1.1375")
Base metal however is 2T, 2x5/8" = 1.25".

You now have a procedure that is good for 1.25" basemetal, but you can only fill it up to 1.1375".
