R 2001 Crashing Constantly

Hi,
We have recently purchased a new machine....
We have installed R 2001 on it.
Whenever I access any text function via mapkey or via right click - Pro/E crashes.
I get the following error file: "Raising Signal: Signal number 11"
We have tried the following:

1. updated video card drivers
2. swapped video cards
3. re-installed 2001, after cleaning the registry.

Still, Pro/E crashes whenever I try to either; create text as a datum curve or, access ANY text function in drawing mode.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Also,
Both the old and new machines have XP Pro 2002 - service pack 2.

Thanks.

JW

I would look at the config setting pro_editor_command, perhaps Pro/E can not find the editor.

dgallup,
Thanks - an interesting possibility however, we are using the same config.pro file for both our working and dysfunctional installs...

Thanks again,

JW

It might be due to certain XP updates and there are a ton of them. My Pro/E wash crashing when starting up this September until I installed the windows update that corrected the Daylight Savings time to the new settings.

I would also check your mouse drivers because I have seen many problems in other forums based on this topic. specifically
Mouse Crashes

Look at Mindripper's posting and the following one.

mjcole,
Thanks.
I will look into the XP thing...
Same mouse and keyboard (literally) - both machines.

Singal 11 typically means a graphics issue. Make sure you are using a video card certified for the 2001 version. Also, make sure your video card drivers are completely up-to-date. You should also make sure that if you card is certified that the card manufacturer does not have drivers specific versions for ProE.

Worst case scenario, if you are not using a video card certified for use with proE then set the graphics config option to win32_gdi. It will be much slower, but at least it will work.

You could also try as an alternative, leaving the graphics option set to opengl, but turn the graphics acceleration down a bit in the windows display manager.

Good luck,

Steve

Google spit up these two useful links. The is an interesting reply on the mcadcentral link that states the person called PTC and they told them a line to add to config.pro.

One other thing you might want to try is one of the numerous free utilities that clean fragments of old drivers and files from your systems registery.

Heckler,
Thanks for your efforts...
It would seem that the computer we were trying to do the install on - had previously had a Wildfire demo installed.
Even after cleaning the registry and starting over, 2001 would not install correctly.
We have since done an XP system restore, to a date before Wildfire was installed. It worked!

Thanks to everyone for your input...

Cheers,

JW
