We're using Inventor R11 SP.4

A co-worker accidentally upgraded to 2009. He uninstalled and re-installed R11.

After installing R11, he no longer had access to the Content Center Files. We couldn't figure out why so we ran a repair on Inventor.

This opened up more issues and still did not resolve his Content Center Access. He now has trouble/error messages with any Office application.

Is anyone aware why this would happen? Is there a known fix? We don't really have a computer expert on site so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know how you 'accidentally' upgrade..

There could be may possible causes for the CC, don't know why office is having problems, unless the uninstaller removed something.

Firstly have you checked to see if the CC templates were installed? Are they local or network? Has your project got any CC libraries associated with it? Is there are problem with the login to ADMS? Are you getting error messages when you try?

I am going to need more information to help you better.

A co-worker accidentally... We don't really have a computer expert on site so any feedback...

I would hire an experienced IT professional to come in and get things back on-track. Check with your VAR.

Our company is pretty old-school so a lot of the folks here are not aware that backwards compatibility does not exist with 3-D cad programs...thus the accident.

I'm new to Inventor (and this company) but have a lot of SolidWorks experience. I've seen errors with SolidWorks and Office in the past, which was easily fixed with a different version of some background program (.net I think) and wanted to know if this was the case with Inventor. Office was working fine until we ran a repair on Inventor. More concerned with fixing Inventor...we have a guy that can manage the Office issues.

The other users in the office have no problems at all. As for the location of the CC...that's a good question. Apparently we've let go of the actual Inventor gurus during the past year due to the recession.

Is there a way for us to find out where our CC is located? We can log into ADMS (local host) but this user cannot. When we use CC to create parts, it dumps the newly created part onto our server (we know that location).

Our VAR hasn't been as helpful as we'd hoped. His solution is upgrade, but these folks already feel that if a current problem can't be solved than why upgrade to newer problems.

Thanks again.

Seems like you may need a new VAR. Some of the smaller ma and pa shops are only there for the sales and not the support, but don't expect to get free tech support from a VAR when Autodesk Subscription itself is something you pay for. Are you on subscription? If so use that tech support with Autodesk and not your VAR.

It doesn't sound like you have subscription though or you will be on a never version already. If you don't have that, you can call a VAR with pay for support like ours and we can remote into the system to take a look at the issues, but it would probably be an at cost solution. Realistically you should just re-image (hopefully you keep Ghost images) the machine or restore it. You could also try uninstalling all ADMS clients, SQL Server clients, C++ Redistributable, Office, and Inventor and the .NET updates and start almost clean with re installation instead of repair. When a newer version of Inventor goes in it uninstalls the old ADMS for the new one and updates the file versions of the Content Center files. There are just way too many factors here for you to get a clear picture from a free support site like this one.

Hi,

It may have installed a newer version of .net framework that is not compatible with R11, but not sure really.

Your CC templates are most likely here:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\Inventor 11\Content Center\Libraries

Have you tried to run ADMS and log in before running Inventor? Is he having user name and password problems, or will it not even open? You haven't really said what is going on?..

Why can't you all upgrade it R2009, it is much better then R11? Do you have to be compatible with a 3rd party?

A probably quicker solution than trying to debug the problem online is a clean install. Autodesk have information online you can follow to completely remove all traces of previous Autodesk software before reinstalling.
