We are in a process of creating a shop for race cars development and testing, we think of having the following tools:
A 3D scanning device to have a model of the car
A flow analysis/virtual wind tunnel
A post processing software to analize aero changes
A FEA software for structural analysis
A simulator for track analysis
and whatever else somebody suggests
I am seeking advise from all of you who i know have a vast experience, on what are the best software for this and what else should we add to the shop. If you have the information what are the prices?
As allways thank you for the time to solve our doubts

I think you need a very experienced test driver/engineer. One with years of test and fabrication experience. I can only think of one...sadly, I'm too old to start again.
Sure wish I was 30 again!

Rod ;-)

Suspension, vehicle dynamics and mechanisms analysis - MSC.ADAMS

FEA must be able to handle composites.

Which race series do you have experience in?

Something along the lines of LS-Dyna for getting into plastic deformation of structures, CEM, etc.

Lots and lots of strain gages.

Plenty of hydraulic rams, winches and great big heavy chunks of concrete to smash things into so that you can validate your modeling.

thank you all for your answers, we have most experience in touring cars, both, FWD and RWD. V8, V6, 4 cyl, etc all in S AMERICA-. we won the championship last year with JOSE MARIA LOPEZ. and we are beginning with formula, at the moment we race with tubular structure cars, but we wish to develop composite cars

I agree with the LapSim recommendation. Buy the full blown version. I have Matlab code to produce Lapsim tire coefficients from any tire test procedure (machine or track) if anybody's interested. I do Mx and MZ as well as Fy. You really need Mx consideration...

thank you cibachrome i wil have that in mind

If you're looking for an engineer willing to work for pennies on the dollar, long thank-less hours, and no family preventing copious amounts of travel... Look no further.

Are you guys mostly doing Chassis and Aero design and farming out Engine and Suspension?

If you decide that ADAMS is too expensive, have a look at mbdyn.

It seems rather good at aero/mechanical interactions.

for cfd look no further than OpenFOAM.

The price is right on both those products.
