Looking at a job that will have 16' high double racks 8' aisles with building materials which include asphalt shingles, windows and of course vinyl siding. Im looking through NFPA and cant seem to find the vinyl siding. I am assuming that would be Group A plastics. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Vinyl siding is manufactured from Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) which can be either Group A plastic, or a Class 3 commodity depending on the plasticizer content. Table A5.6.4.1 lists 'Vinyl floor coverings - rolled' as an example of Group A plastic, which is probably the closest you'll get to vinyl siding in that list. A5.6.3.4 does mention 'Vinyl Floor Coverings - Tiles in Cartons' as a Class IV commodity, but my opinion would be to err on the side of the more conservative design criteria.

bob:

Look at FM Global Data Sheet D 8-1. It lists "rigid pvc building panels, siding" as Class 3 (Item 148). I didn't see any discussion of packaging there, though I may have missed it.

DB

The vinyl siding will be in cartons on racks that are 16' with a building height of 20'. Racks have metal mesh supports too no solid shelving.

I would classify it as Cartoned Unexpanded Group A plastic unless test data demonstrated the heat release rate is consistent with similar Class III commodities.
