Hi

for my dissertation I am trying to design a drainage system using epa swmm and measure its resilience under both standard and future climate change conditions. Now the Swmm applications manual lists a number of return periods such as a 1 in 100 year storm and has a list of the time and precipitation in inches. I am trying to find a U.K equivalent of this data. However it is proving difficult. Is there anyway to calculate or find such values for rainfall return periods in the U.K.

(below is 1 in 100 year rainfall data for a 2 hour storm)

0:00 1
0:05 1.14
0:10 1.33
0:15 2.23
0:20 2.84
0:25 5.49
0:30 9.95
0:35 4.12
0:40 2.48
0:45 1.46
0:50 1.22
0:55 1.06
1:00 1
1:05 0.95
1:10 0.91
1:15 0.87
1:20 0.84
1:25 0.81
1:30 0.78
1:35 0.75
1:40 0.73
1:45 0.71
1:50 0.69
1:55 0.67

Thank you

I have tried google but finding the exact information is difficult. Also couldn't find it on the Met Office website. I am trying to model runoff using EPA Swmm if that helps.

It seems that determining the appropriate rainfall data would be an integral part of your dissertation. This is a non-trivial issue. Even the choice of a 2-hour storm duration is significant.

That said, I would expect UK stormwater regulations to provide guidance on the applicable rainfall data. Otherwise try a more targeted Google search such as "uk temporal rainfall distribution" or "uk idf curves", which can be used to generate temporal rainfall distributions.
