I am working on a project where I am raising the existing concrete site elevation by about 4'. The railroad is private and goes through an industrial facility. The railroad track is on the ground (concrete)level. I need to raise/upgrade the railroad to match the grade.

Is there an easy way to raise the railroad, Are there companies specialized in this type of work?

Just stumbled across your question. Yes, you can raise a railroad track. You have two choices: 1) Dismantle the track and reconstruct it at the new elevation; 2) Raise and tamp the track until you reach the desired elevation.

For a raise of 4-ft, the first option is probably the most effective. You will also want to consider the standards of the railroad that operates on the track (grade, curvature, clearances, etc.) Depending on the state in which the project is located, there may also be regulatory considerations, particularly if you are crossing a street.

For a list of companies that specialize in this type of work, go to:

What railroad company operates the track? They will have design guides that state what is and is not permitted.

The track is owned by CSX. Also, thanks for all the response.

Assuming that your tracks are associated with an industrial facility the contact person was/is Joe Mitchell, Regional Manager in Atlanta Georgia his phone number is 770-819-2845. You can ask that a copy of the CSX Transportation "Guidelines and Specifications for Design and Construction of Commercial Tracks" be sent to you. If that number is no longer valid reply to this post and I will find another number.
