Hi everyone,
we're using a small thickener (2m diameter) for a crystallizer mother liquor clarification before recycling it back to the process. Although the area seems to be adequate for the solids charge we're having problems with the underflow since crystals get stuck to the conical walls and remain inside the thickener. I thought of installing a rake or scraper to avoid this but I can't seem to find anything related to its design and torque/power calculations. Can anyone tell me where can I find such information?

Hi 25362, thks for your help but I can't modify the crsytallizer. I need to improve the thickener operation itself. I just mentioned the crystallizer to try clarifying a little bit the application. I know that wastewater treatment plants have these kind of scrapers on the bottom but these are very very large units compared to ours and i'm not sure these suppliers wpould supply only the scraper system. Also, I would like to know how the torque/power rating envolved can be figured out before specifiying a unit. Maybe it's not so simple...
BTW, it's not buena suerte but "boa sorte" since I'm portuguese ;-)

My personal experience with Armstrong shows that they are capable of solving many problems including similar to those you mention. It wouldn't harm to contact them to verify or invalidate my assumption.
