We are fabricating a job that requires a paint specification with the finish colour SHELL YELLOW, I assume this to be Shell as in Petroleum
Can any one of you experts tell me the RAL or BS number for this yellow

prefix,
If I were you, I would look up carefuly on the internet for the definition of Shell Yellow;- it does not have a RAL allocation. It is a color of its own and doesn't have a standard code. In fact, it doesn't seem to be a very consistent color, each supplier seem to have his own 'definition', as seen on the internet...
cheers,

Thanks for the information and advise,
I "ASSUME" that DEP 70.48.11.30-Gen is the Company specification?

I'd go back to your customer and ask them for a paint chip or explicit definition.

I'm assuming you'd hate to paint it based on what we or some other internet source tells you, only for the customer to reject it.

Posting guidelines faq731-376 (probably not aimed specifically at you)

ALWAYS get a RAL or BS colour specification not simply a name.
It will probably save you a repainting job at some point!

RAL 1002 Sand yellow
RAL 1004 Golden yellow
RAL 1003 Signal yellow
RAL 1005 Honey yellow
RAL 1007 Daffodil yellow
RAL 1012 Lemon yellow
RAL 1016 Sulfur yellow
RAL 1018 Zinc yellow
RAL 1020 Olive yellow
RAL 1023 Traffic yellow
RAL 1021 Rape yellow
RAL 1017 Saffron yellow
RAL 1032 Broom yellow
RAL 1028 Melon yellow
RAL 1024 Ochre yellow
RAL 1033 Dahlia yellow
RAL 1034 Pastel yellow

No 'Shell' yellow.

A point from the above is that although those are all types of 'yellow' and are labelled as such in the RAL index, many we would consider oranges, mustards and in one case, grey.
