Ramp loading in dynamic/explicit analysis

Hello everyone,

I have limited experience with abaqus. Previously, I would use a static analysis and apply loads in the ramp format. Now I'm doing a dynamic/explicit analysis, and I cannot find the ramp feature. How do you apply a ramp load in dynamic/explicit analysis?

With static analysis the default amplitude in the load module was ramp, but with dynamic/explicit analysis the default amplitude in the load module was instantaneous, with no option for ramp. I do not want to apply my loads instantaneously in dynamic/explicit since that will cause various problems in my module.

I do not have much experience with Explicit but if you increased the time, then the Abaqus will take longer to reach the final load.

abaqus explicit -dynamic loading will make use of amplitude rather than ramp

yes, use a "tabular" amplitude 0,0,1,1 ; this will give you a ramp (if your time is 1)
In explicit, it's sometimes better to use a "smooth step" amplitude to avoid high kinematic energy and inertial effects (and possible excessive element distortion), but this depends on your model & loads.
