Is anyone aware of the approximate ratio between the vertical and the horizontal earthquake acceleration?
I know it depends on lots of things, but a rough estimate would help me a lot.

Thanks Civil, could you please give me a reference for that?

I believe that the ratio went up following the Northridge earthquake where records show a substantial underestimation. As far as I know, the ratio is more V=2/3H.

I believe this is in major codes, AASHTO among them.
