Hello all, it's been a while since I posted, busy with work and studies. I am faced with a 280' wide PEMB containing a large moment and reaction at the exterior footings at the slab edge. To try to overcome this eccentricity, I was thinking of using a short RC column to support the building frame. This column would be about 24" tall and extend from the slab to a footing (loaded concentrically) below grade. Has anyone used this technique? Does anyone see any problems?
Thanks!

I'm a little curious why you have large moments for a Pre-engineering Metal Building. If they're only due to the lateral loads times the depth to the footing, they shouldn't be real large. And the pre-engineered building people don't usually assume a fixed at the foundation.

LOL, I knew I should be taking it easy on the day after labor day. Prelim RISA calcs, changed to pin.
