Hi,

If you had a few typical plans of a building that shows the location and dims of the RC shear walls (typically stairs and lift shafts), what kind of high level check would you do to see that the location and stiffness of the shear walls is acceptable?

Obviously, I am not looking for a analysis and design, just a quick check that the location should be fine OR to check if I need more shear walls.

I was thinking to go for a stability check:

1) Calculate wind load pressure and the find total wind load applied on building.

2) Then, check overturning moment based on the wind load.

3) Calculate dead load only of the RC shear wall and SW of the slabs supported to calculate the total dead load applied.

4) As we have both P and M go for a check of P/A +/- M/Z, to check stress pressure. If the stress pressure is negative (tension) then check what kind of shear wall arrangement will always give compression only.

Does it sound like a sensible check to you? Any suggestions will be very welcomed.

Thanks
