Reair welding of Super Duplex stainless steel shaft

Pump shaft material is ASTM A240 S32760 and is damaged during operation. We have an approved weld procedure from the pump supplier. Can the shaft be repair welded and machined to bring it back to the original condition? Are there any precautions to be taken while welding duplex ss? or
Is it advisable to replace the shafts?

Was the repair procedure validated using the A923 test?
It is critical to know that no detrimental intermetallics were formed during the procedure. These would hurt both toughness and corrosion resistance.

Yes, you can weld repair the duplex stainless steel shaft provided you have a WPS qualified with notch toughness/corrosion testing. Also, I would suggest you perform post weld NDE. This can be either surface NDT or combination of surface and volumetric NDT.

Thanks for the responses. Apologize for multiple forum postings as this was an emergency situation at the project and was not so sure where would it fit in. We contacted the pump supplier and were informed that repair of their shaft is not acceptable. There is a long lead time for a replacement due to the duplex material.
EdStainless, The pump vendor has supplied his welding procedure and not a repair procedure.
Metengr, The WPS supplied does have notch toughness test but not a corrosion test included.

Is the toughness testing per A923?
You can evaluate the structure by either corrosion testing or by low temp impact testing.
You get the same information.
