Recording a macro; drafting workbench; raster options

I have read through some posts and it seems that you cannot record macros in the drafting workbench. Is this really the case? It seems to me that drafting would be the one place, above all else, you would want to record macros. What a horrible oversight on CATIAs part.

Alas, I am experiencing the same problem. I want to change the raster options for a view to "high" print quality and "shading with edges" easily. CATIA offers no way to change these defaults that I could find.

I understand this macro would be simple, but I am inexperienced with writing them an don't know where to begin.

I used to learn how to write macros by recording, then figuring it out from there, but CATIA doesn't even record.

Any help is much appreciated.

changing the view can easily be done within the view Properties. (or was this just an example of why you want to write a macro?)

Yeah, I know you can change it in the menu. I just do it so often that I want it easier. It is 13 clicks just to make this change and it drives me nuts. This is an example of why I want a macro- or perhaps someone could tell me how to make these options default. Theres got to be a configuration file or something...

I guess I'd like to know once and for all- Is the macro recording tool in CATIA totally useless?
Also, some help on my specific problem of the view properties change would be nice.

thanks

Nick,
To make it your default - Tools - Options - Mech Design - Drafting - View. Turn View Generation mode from default Exact view to raster. Upon doing so the Configure button will be available to customize.

Well that makes a partial solution. I don't want everything to be raster, just some things. Even so, I changed the raster settings (in the options dialog) as you mentioned and then switched back to exact view (which I what I want much of the time). Now when I change a view to raster, the print options are what I have set as default (high quality), but the mode will not stick. It stays as "dynamic hidden line removal".
This is a start though. It takes two clicks out of the chain.

I will read up on the macro information you've linked. Thank you.

CATIA has been a roller coaster of frustration for me. The first couple months left me longing for Unigraphics and Inventor. Recently I started liking CATIA as I get more used to it. Looks like we're going down hill again.

I guess a macro would make sense if you do this all the time. (I'm just a draftsman who doesn't know how to write macros, so I'm forced to use the programs that come with CATIA)

You can take a few more steps out of the process by selecting all the views that you want to change (use Ctrl or Shift) and just go to Properties one time.

Yeah, the multi-select works wonders.

The link that DBezaire posted looks like exactly what I need. I tried to sign up but I never received a password to the blog, so no luck there. Can't view it.
