Appendix Y only applies to circular flanges. Would Appendix 2 be a conservative option for calculating the required flange thickness?

Thank you.

PD 5500 Enquiry Case 133 deals with full face rectangular flanges with bolting on the outside.
You may be able to adapt it to your use.

You may have to use U-2(g) for this kind of configuration.
Try to Google: BOLTED FLANGED CONNECTIONS FOR NON-CIRCULAR PRESSURE VESSELS by A.E Blach.

See UG-34 (C)(3) and Appendix 2.10

wsmith22, given the considerations made in Apx Y of contact outside the bolt circle might it be more meaningful to adapt Apx Y to a non-circular geometry, rather than adapting Apx 2 to both non-circular geometry and contact outside the bolt circle?

Is such an approach permitted under current U-2(g) rules?

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
