I got a question that puzzles me. I want to know what we do and how we treat microwave ovens for recycling. Are there special procedures, processes or requirements to be done prior to sending it to the crushing devices or to done manually? How do we make sure there is not hazardous materials contaminating the rest of the waste streams?
I know certain microwave ovens are not accepted in some recycling facilities as they may contain one or more of the following and some may only be relevant to older models:
• Mercury may be present in some machines
• Some capacitors may have PCB in them (Polychlorinated Biphenyls)
• Some microwaves may also contain some DEHP (Diethylhexylphthalates) that may need to be taken out manually!!
• Beryllium Oxide may also be preset in older Magnetrons
What can you confirm is required or not required?
Can you give me some quick responses on this one?
