When sending large ProE files, using ZIP can reduce their size to about 50% or more. Sometimes this is not enough.

A simple solution is to use the INSERT mode. Drag and drop the INSERT HERE arrow to one of the first features. Now all features after the INSERT HERE will be suppressed.

The file size is now dramatically less then even with ZIP!

When the receiver gets the file, they simply cancel the INSERT mode or just drag the INSERT HERE arrow to the bottom of the Model Tree.

This is a good technique. I have used it for many years. Before the file format was switched to binary the difference was much larger. A 20 meg file could be put onto a floppy.

However, you need to be carefull. I have had people send me files that could not be regenerated. You must double check that all the features can be resumed and regerated without errors before sending it out.

Great point. But remember that features that are suppressed, stay suppressed after the INSERT MODE is cancelled. Carefull not to RESUME ALL after canceling the INSERT MODE.

Yes, this care has to be taken particularly for parts having family table.
Excellent Idea 3dlogix.

It really is best to delete any surpressed features (not controled by family table) when using this method. you have no control over what the person at the other end will do to resume the features.

I agree, but there are cases when suppressed featured (by PROGRAM, for one...) are required. As always, the person on the receiving end of the file should be competent enough to understand what to resume and what to suppress.
