I have a dimension with an R for radius written in appened text and I need it to be inside the the parentheses identifying it as a reference dimension but it is staying on the outside.

Why use appended text? Radial dimensions have built in support for the "R" symbol.

[ol 1]
[li]Delete your appended text[/li]
[li]Right click your dimension, choose Style -> Radial[/li]
[li]The first drop down box will specify if you want the symbol before or after the dimension (sounds like you want it after the dimension)[/li]
[li]For the "Radius Symbol", choose "R" from the drop down list[/li]
[li]Press Ok[/li]
[/ol]

It appears that getting rid of the appended text won't help the situation, the R is still outside the reference parentheses. What drafting standard are you using? I suspect NX is following the convention of the standard you have chosen.

I am not sure if this is what you are after.

Right click your dimension, choose Style->Radial.
In the drop down box for Radius Symbol choose User Defined and type in (R)

Sorry its taken me a while to respond. Super busy at work (which is good). I want the radius before and inside the parenthesis. I forgot about changing it to a radial dimension. I will test that when I get time and get back to you!

Change the radial style to use the "R" symbol in front of the dimension, then change the dimension type to diameter reference and you should be good to go.

The dimension is from a cross section. The dimension I am taking is from the center point of the ring to an outer diameter so it is not picking up the dimension as radial. I am using NX 6 by the way
