Reference Check Box?

Is there any simple way to selection a dimension and make it reference without adding parentheses before and after the dimension text. I have resorted to put text on top of the dimension with a positional link that contains “( )”. The reason I do it that way is so I can keep the parentheses close to the text. Is there a better way like a check box labeled named reference some where?
