reference for controls / automation standards

I am heading up an effort to write a standards package for my company to incorporate best practice techniques related to electrical / programming design for industrial equipment. I'm planning to include as much as possible starting with fusing and panel layout and going all the way through HMI and PLC application design. I'm looking for as much reference material on this subject as I can find. Can anyone point me to some solid references for standards and/or best practice documents that may be of help?
