Hello everyone,

I want to refine mesh of a certain portion of my 3D model. My model is a 3D rectangular block (L-50,W-20,H-20).The portion which I want to refine mesh is also a block of L-10,W-5,H-5.The refine mesh portion is in the middle of the model but its top surface shares the surface of the model. You cane see the figure for better understanding(Sorry for the quick hand drawing).
My question is do I need to create a partition for the little portion? If I do, then could anyone please tell how to do that?I am very new in abaqus.Any kind of help is greatly appreciated and it will be very helpful for me.Thanks in advance.

The easiest way is to create the whole block first and the create the little box by partitioning. I made this try in the CAE, more partitionings are needed if mesh-density transition in more than one direction is desired.

Hello ,

Thanks for replying.Actually I knew that I need to partition. But I don't know how to partition a 3D object. When I go to partitions it shows me 3 options face, shell and edge and for every of them they have different options. It would be very great if you could please tell me in which way I can create the partition. May be this is a silly question.Sorry about that.Thank you.

Partitioning the "cell" since it exists. There are several options under the "cell", I used the "extrude/sweep edges" and the "extrude" suboption here.

Simplest way to patrition the block would be to create planes and then partition cell by plane.
