Onboard a ship, the existing insulation for both the refrigeration piping and chillwater piping is starting to fail. Evidence is seen with the sweating on the existing and pools of condensate on the decks. Can you provide a useful guide on the type of insuation to be used for both refrigeration chillwater systems that meets USCG requirements?

The following materials are recommended above -290 deg.F.

ASTM C534 ; Preformed Flexible Elastomeric Cellular Thermal Insulation
ASTM C552 ; Cellular Glass Thermal Insulation
ASTM C534 ; Unfaced Preformed Rigid Cellular Polyurethane Thermal Insulation

Additionally,
Perlite ; above -150 deg.F, for cryogenic storage tanks, cold box

Good luck,

Thomas
