Does anyone has experience with refurbished medium voltage (25kV) pole mount transformers? Our supplier is suggesting on using refurbihsed transformer due to shorter lead time, but I want to understand if there are any risks associated with it like no warranty etc.

Thanks, Asad

Refurbished is a general term. You have to assess the refurbishment done with age and operating history of the unit.

Agree with prc. Someone could simply spray paint the exterior and call the transformer refurbished. Reputable transformer shops that refurbish transformers will be able to advise on their process and testing. You should get some warranty with a properly refurbished and tested transformer. If you are thinking about a large purchase, keep in mind that efficiencies of older units may not be as high as a modern transformer.

We had a lot of problems commisioning a used generator.
The owner call the supplier to complain;
"I thought that this unit was advertised with a "Miami River" overhaul?"
"Yes it was. A Miami River overhaul is a pressure wash and a spray paint job.
Do you have a problem with that?"
True story.
