We have 9.5 mm thickness butt welded joints.
Category:Normal fluid service.
Question: Maximum acceptable size in rounded indication within the cluster porosity.
As per ASME B 31.3 for normal fluid service, rounded indication shall be 1.5 X D.
So,for random rounded indication shall be 1/4t i.e 1/4 X 9.5 mm = 2.31 mm (As per ASME Sec VIII Div.1 App-4, table 4-1). Also written in App-4 maximum permisible size 1/4t or 5/32(4mm) whichever is lesser.
Now my question is, when we go for interpretation of cluster porosity as per B31.3 then what is the maximum size of rounded indication within the cluster porosity?
It is 1.5 X 2.31 = 3.46 mm or 2.31 mm.
Request to explain me.
