Regarding units in NX8

Greetings,

I have recently ran into an issue with NX8 and have been unable to find a solution through Siemens or this forum. The problems I am encountering are as follows:

1.) When creating a new .prt model the default units appear to switch between metric/standard without the user changing the units through the pull down menu. We generated 8 new models last week. The initial 2 were in metric, the remaining 6 were somehow created in standard. I have verified that our default setting is millimeters, which is the desired unit system. Is there a way to convert the standard files to metric without starting over?

2.) We primarily use .iges files from our customers so we do an ample share of sheet body modeling. As a result we typically set our default trim tolerances on the CAD stations to .01mm. We recently swtiched to NX8 and I have been unable to make this the default setting. I have been changing the setting under File/Utilities/Customer Defaults but it does not become a standard setting for the model file until I go under Preferences/Modeling and again change the distance tolerance. Whenever we create a new model or import a .iges file we must manually change this setting prior to doing any modeling.

Any help you may be able to provide would be great.

Regards,
Designer Dave

Hey Dave,

as for your first question, yes there is something called ug_convert, situated in de UGII folder of the NX installation.
Have a look at this thread it's a simple explanation how to use the tool. Good luck.

Regarding your 2nd question, you will need to modify your template parts and save them for your desired change to take effect. The customer defaults apply to a new, completely blank file. If you are using a template, the new file will have the preferences set based on the template file selected. If you are importing an IGES file, and choose "new file" option; the template will be igesnullnx80_in.prt or igesnullnx80_mm.prt. These can be found in the <NX install>\IGES folder.
