Does anyone know how to tell if someone has regular SolidWorks or SolidWorks Office Pro installed? We have one Engineer who does not have the Pro features in his add-ins. I am thinking that regular SolidWorks not SolidWorks Office Pro was installed. He does not want to reinstall if there is a setting we can change. I have not talked to our VAR yet.

I do not think that you would be able to install core SW instead of SW Office Pro, because the reg code that you have is for a specific product (SW office Pro). What probably happened is that the rest of the the add ins were not loaded after SW was loaded. You should be able to load the rest of the Add ins off of the installation cd without having to reload SW.

Thanks,

DanielGraham,
We had one Designer here install regular SolidWorks instead of Pro, so it can be done, a misunderstanding in communication. He even used it for a month. We did not find out until I wrote a macro he wanted and it did not work on his regular SolidWorks.

Bradley,

As I recall this does have to be done as a reinstallation (SW to SW Pro). In my last job we had only one seat of SW Professional which was our floating/network license for part-time users. Ironically (or perhaps not) none these users with access to the network seat of SW had any use for the extended functionality.

I asked and received permission to attempt a parallel installation of SW Pro on my workstation along side my standard license of SW. This did not work as the SW Pro license overwrote my original version and I had to reinstall the original seat (which again was NOT SW Pro). Afterward in trying an alternate path I learned that couldn't just install the add-ons and point them at the network license as needed them as it turned out.

The above may or may not be useful information to you. However either way, as I recall SW Pro was a separate option during the installation process so .

Good luck.

I had to reinstall. All add-in did come in then. It did not take long. The Engineer did not like the idea he had to re-link his macros. I did a clean install.
Thanks for all your ideas.

One useful note for all. I install and re-install quite a bit, and have set up a sold works directory on my local drive that has folders for all my macros, templates, feature pallet items, weldment profiles, user file (.cus), etc...

So when i reinstall i can completely wipe everything out of the program file directory, re-install and make sure that the new installation is pointing to my local folders and not the program folders for all that data (under file locations). These folders are easy to update and keep track of. It just makes the re-install easier.

We do the same thing where I work, except these folders are on our network. It's a great time saver either local or remote.
