I want to add a 3 NPS nozzle to a rectangular header box (3/4" thk) of an air-cooled heat exchanger. The opening does not meet the requirements of UG-36(c)(3) of ASME Sec VIII Div.1. Also, the diameter of the opening exceeds one half of the shortest span of the head as mentioned in UG-39(c). Here, the reinforcement calculations are required to be performed per U-2(g)as mentioned under UG-39(c)(3). If so, are there any references to perform the calculations.

Does API-661 "Air Cooled Heat Exchangers for General Refinery Service" have what you're looking for?

Edward,
I don't think if API-661 addresses this issue.

Hi Leonard,
Looks like Nozzle-pro deals with circular flat heads and not rectangular flat heads.
Thx,
Sam
