Greetings all
I am building a large patio 16ft X 30ft, 4" deep. I am wondering how you determine the correct amount of reinforcing wire or rebar to use. I have over seen numerous flat pours but the contractor took care of the amount of rebar required. This time I figure that I should learn how to determine the correct amount of rebar/wire required. Thanks

You might want to try 10M@16, or #4 at a similar spacing, located in the centre of the 4" slab. Make sure that your granular fill is well compacted and the bars should be well supported. for a 4"slab, it should be sawcut into about 8'-10' panels. Use 1-1/2" x 1/4" sawcut and caulk with a good semi-hard caulk. Sawcutting should occur about 8 hours after the slab is finished (sooner using a soft cut type of saw. Also want to make sure it doesn't dry out too fast using wet cure or a curing compound.

If I go with fiber reinforced concrete can I eliminate the rebar all together or should I just go with rebar and fiber reinforcement.

Thanks
