Hello
An old timber ceiling consists of timber beams (0,70 m apart) and plywood above them.
I'd like to reinforce it by adding the concrete slab on top of it - to make a composite (see images bellow).
This is a common practice in my country for reinforcing old existing buildings (it connects bearing walls and reinforce the ceiling).
Since timber beams are not continouos - simply supported (but RC slab is) my question is what to do with concrete slab above inner support?
Should I make a dilatation above this support or not? Concrete slab will be reinforced with a steel reinf. mesh.
Thoughts?
