Morn, I need some support with a calculation in 13480:3. We have had a failure on a 1" socket off a 10" natural gas main. We want to initially replace it like for like, but someone has questioned whether it needs a reinforcing pad. I have done the calc in excel for eq 8.4.2-1 and it confirms it should have a pad. Has anyone else experienced a small socket needing a comp pad of a relatively large main,
it has also been suggested that a sockolet be used - my only problem is that we're unable to volumetrically test this weld as it will be a full pen weld. what have others done in past to prove to thier insurers on testing. would mpi of root and cap suffice?
